Take these vitamins to reduce your risk of diabetes
Type 2 diabetes is a chronic disease that affects more than 540 million people worldwide. With the change of living and eating habits, diabetes has become the third biggest factor affecting human health. In China, there are more than 114 million adults with diabetes, accounting for a quarter of the world's diabetes patients, the highest number in the world, and this number continues to rise.
B vitamins, which are essential micronutrients for human health, are cofactors of various enzymes involved in energy metabolism, protein synthesis and other functions. However, the mechanism by which B vitamins regulate type 2 diabetes remains largely unknown.
On June 16, 2024, researchers from the School of Public Health of Fudan University published a paper entitled "Joint B Vitamin Intake and Type 2 Diabetes Risk: Joint B Vitamin Intake and Type 2 Diabetes Risk: The Mediating Role of Inflammation in a Prospective Shanghai Cohort ".
Studies have shown that supplementation with single B vitamins or B complex vitamins is associated with a reduced risk of type 2 diabetes, with vitamin B6 having the strongest effect on reducing diabetes risk among the B complex vitamins, and mediation analyses have shown that inflammation partially explains the association between B complex vitamin supplementation and reduced diabetes risk.
